Your elected Green representatives

There are Green representatives on Islington Council, the London Assembly and the European Parliament. If you live in Islington the following people represent you:

Katie Dawson: Islington Council

In May 2006, Katie Dawson became the first Green elected to Islington Council, representing Highbury West ward.

A mother of three (her third child, Abel, was born just weeks before the election campaign!) Katie works for a local publishing company and has lived in Highbury for many years. Being a lone Green councillor, she is denied the full-time administrative support provided to the other big parties, but has still made a huge impact in her first term as councillor. Katie’s particular interests are the impact of the Emirates Stadium in Highbury residents and sustainable housing development, but she has been responsible for initiating some ground-breaking legislation in the borough on a range of issues, including:

  • parking charges being linked to vehicle emissions
  • a 20mph limit across Islington’s residential roads
  • a policy of no net loss of permeable surface area in planning developments to reduce flooding

Katie pushed through a raft of Green measures in the February 2009 council budget, and in May was elected Chair of the Council East Area Committee

Katie holds a ward surgery on the second Monday of every month from 6.30pm to 8pm at the N4 Library on Blackstock Rd.
