Recycling

On-Street Recycling
Every day, a huge amount of waste is needlessly produced on Islington’s streets. Providing recycling bins means that people can save cans, bottles and papers from ending up in landfill and help reduce the environmental costs of producing virgin paper, plastic, glass or metal. Lots of other local authorities have, so why not Islington? The Islington Green Party has teamed up with environmental groups to highlight the problem by picking up litter and recycling it ourselves - look out for us on match days.

Recycling up thanks to the Greens
Year-round campaigning by local Greens helped push the Council to introduce plastic recycling last year, and the result is that Islington’s dire recycling rate is on the up. But many people were shocked to learn that our waste had ended up in Indonesia. So we’re now pushing the Council to recycle more in London, to introduce on-street recycling, and to reintroduce the separation of different kinds of waste rather than shipping recycling abroad.

Campaign against Junk Mail
The Green Party has launched a campaign to reduce the amount of junk mail that comes through your letter box. There are two free ways in which you can reduce addressed junk mail. The first is to opt out of the edited electoral register that councils sell to private companies. Contact Islington Council’s Electoral Registration Office on 020 7527 3110 to find out more.

Alternatively, why not sign up to the Mailing Preference Service? This not-for-profit organisation informs companies of the people to whom it would be a waste of their resources sending them mailings.
