20’s Plenty petition
Green Party Councillor Katie Dawson won an amendment to the 2009 council budget to bring in 20mph limits on all residential roads in Islington. This is a great start! But we think people living, shopping, or walking to school on busier roads such as Blackstock Road should also benefit from reduced traffic speeds and a calmer, safer street environment.
Most accidents happen on major roads and the majority of Islington residents (58%) don’t have access to a car. So it seems only fair to start designing our streets with the wellbeing of all the local community in mind.
Islington Green Party will be putting a motion on this to the council. If you want to back our campaign please sign our petition below.
We the undersigned call on Islington Council and Transport for London to extend the 20 mph limit beyond the residential side roads to include the Blackstock Road, Highbury Park and Highbury Grove.
The many people who live, shop, work and go to school along this road deserve a safer, calmer street environment brought about by slowing down the traffic.
